Cotton prices increased sharply on the back of fear of delay in arrival of new crop due to rains in producing States. Scarcity of supply also pushed up the fibre’s price on Monday. Traders said that recent rains in Gujarat may delay the arrival of new cotton crop. There were demand from domestic mills but as supply is tight. Gujarat Sankar-6 cotton gained by700-800 to 47,800-48,500 per candy of 356 kg. About 300-400 bales (of 170 kg) arrived in Gujarat and 900 bales arrived in India. Kapas or raw cotton also increased by 25 to 1,050-1,150 per 20 kg. Cottonseed traded up by 15 to 570-590 per 20 kg.
