: Warangal Urban: Congress leaders including TPCC former president Ponnala Lakshmaiah and Kisan Cell State president Kodanda Reddy have urged the State government to ensure minimum support price of Rs 7,000 per quintal to cotton farmers. They also urged the government to ask the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) authorities to purchase cotton irrespective of the percentage of moisture content. Congress leaders along with district Congress committee president N Rajender Reddy, former MLA G Venkata Ramana Reddy, and City Congress president Rajanala Srihari visited the Enumamula Agriculture Market Yard (AMC), one of the biggest market yards in Asia and interacted with the cotton and maize farmers here on Monday. They also met the AMC Chairman Kompelli Dharmaraju and secretary Nirmala, and explained about the low prices being offered to cotton and maize farmers. They asked the authorities to take up the issue with the State government and ensure that the farmers get the remunerative price. Later, the Congress leaders told press persons that the CCI was refusing to offer MSP of Rs 4,320 to farmers citing high moisture content. “The farmers are getting Rs 2,900 to Rs 3,700 per quintal while the MSP is Rs 4,320,” they said. City Congress president Rajanala Srihari said those coming with reference of TRS leaders were getting the MSP, and asked the authorities to check the interference of TRS leaders in the market transactions.
